I tend to agree, and about the whole issue of exercising and going to the gym.

I think this partly comes from enjoying PE signifying as 'horrible trendy' to me all through school.

But then I started to understand the value of exercise, and slowly slowly realise I was cutting off my nose to spite my face.

Although one of the things that makes weights particularly enjoyable for me is that it's not a traditionally feminine thing to do. And I like it because it's obviously not aiming for traditionally feminine ideals of physical beauty, in the way that just becoming 'fit' or 'toned' are.

I've talked to other men about this, and their misgivings with weights, and realised that actually it's easier for me to feel good about getting into them because they problematise my gender role rather than support it. So it's not so incredibly posey as it would be for a man to do. I can actually enjoy the narcissism, because it's quite an explicitly feminist or transgressive kind of pleasure.
